To kick off this week, I figured I’d start with a challenge. Using the bingo board for prompts, I did a bookshelf scavenger hunt. I was able to find a book for (almost) all the prompts in less than ten minutes, which is… good? Bad? Time is arbitrary, but it was fun.
For those who don’t know, the bookshelf scavenger hunt is a challenge in which you go through a list of prompts and find a book on your shelves that fits that prompt. There’s a bunch of ways you can do it: with physical shelves, e-books and digital audios, even a Goodreads TBR shelf! If you want to share your version of the challenge, you can do so on Instagram stories, in your blog, on YouTube, or in whatever other way feels good to you. Please let me know if you give it a try… I’d love to see other folks’ iterations!
WLW character: Georgia Peaches and Other Forbidden Fruit by Jaye Robin Brown
Own voices rep: Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore (I got the title wrong in the video! *facepalm*)
A 2017 or earlier release: Gracefully Grayson by Ami Polonsky
At least one explosion: Magnus Chase and the Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan
A one word title: Sappho translated by Mary Barnard
A person of color narrator: Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi (I mentioned in the video that I wasn’t sure if The Prey of Gods by Nicky Drayden had a POC narrator; I’ve looked into it and it does!)
Polyamorous characters: Strange Grace by Tessa Gratton
Character who’s not the gender assigned to them at birth: The Brilliant Death by Amy Rose Capetta
A disabled/alterabled character: A Quite Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard
Artificial intelligence: The Scorpion Rules by Erin Bow
An aro and/or ace character: While I was filming this challenge, I couldn’t think a physical book that I owned that had an aro or ace character. Since I filmed the video my wife let me know that 27 Hours has an ace character. I can’t think of a single book, digital or physical, that I have with an aro character. I would love recommendations if anyone has them. ❤
A non-human character: The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
MLM character: The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan
A short story/poem/essay: Looking for Normal by Jane Anderson… it’s a play but I’m counting it.
A book from one of our rec lists: The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. LeGuin
Character who’s into multiple genders: Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller
A library book: The Girl with the Red Balloon by Katherine Locke and To Be Honest by Maggie Ann Martin
A person on the cover: Seriously… I’m Kidding by Ellen DeGeneres
Nonbinary character: Symptoms of Being Human by Jeff Garvin
An author who uses initials: Behind the Throne by K.B. Wagers
A 2018 release: The Dangerous Art of Blending In by Angelo Surmelis
Stars on the cover: The Next Together and The Last Forever by Lauren James
Another participants post of any kind: Who do you tag? I’m tagging anyone who wants to try this challenge. I’m not going to tag anyone outright because I know December is a busy month for a lot of people and I don’t want anyone to feel pressured, but if you want to do it during any time of the year please feel free. Consider yourself officially tagged.
Want to do it yourself? Tell me how it goes! And don’t forget, the Carrie Pack giveaway is live until midnight PST tonight (well, technically 11:59 PM, but you know what I mean).
