First February Update

It’s been a slow reading week. I’ve been feeling a little slumpy and having troubles picking my next reads. That being said, I’ve found a couple adorable books. 😊

The template I’m using for these updates is WWW Wednesday, hosted by Taking on a World of Words and recommended to me by Destiny at Howling Libraries.

What am I currently reading?

I finally started the audiobook for City of Bones by Cassandra Clare and I’m getting through it Very. Slowly. Thankfully I have it on Scribd rather than through my library so there’s no due date and I can take my sweet time.

I’m also in the middle of the audiobook for A Duke By Default by Alyssa Cole. That one is from the library, but I don’t think that will be a problem. I’m about halfway through and it’s just as adorable and steamy as the first book… honestly, a little moreso because it lacks the squick favor of someone being lied to.

What have I finished reading since my last update?

Royals (renamed Prince Charming) by Rachel Hawkins. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3.5 stars. I’ve been in need of fluff and this absolutely delivered. It’s a YA about a teen, Daisy, spending the summer in Scotland with her sister and her sister’s fiancé… aka Scotland’s prince. Daisy has her own cute romance too. It wasn’t perfect by any means; though Daisy does some growing, she was really frustrating to me in the beginning and then the end felt a bit abrupt. I still liked it a lot and I’m super excited for the f/f sequel Her Royal Highness coming out this spring. REP: Almost everyone is either Scottish or British American. A couple of prominent side characters are queer. The MC mentions going on a date with a girl in the past, but also mentions not knowing it was a date at the time (RELATABLE). CWs: mentions of cheating and trust violations in relationships.

What do I plan to read between now and my next update?

I’ll definitely be finishing A Duke By Default, probably tomorrow. I’m also flying this weekend and I’m bringing my ARC of Her Royal Highness. I’ve also got an eARC of Empire of Light by Alex Harrow (!!!!!) that I’m hoping to read in the next week or two and a copy of Soft on Soft by Em Ali that I wanted to review for Sapphicathon. We’ll see what happens, but those are my general plans.

There you go! It’s going to be a rough week, so any fluffy and/or creature feature (it’s my weird comfort read) recs you can throw my way would be much appreciated. Especially audiobooks. I’ve got enough visual reading to last me forever with how slow it’s going.

Have you read any of these? Any thoughts on what I should prioritize? Let me know in the comments!
