2018

Two things have happened in my life recently: I started having loads of fun with readathon challenges and I started craving queer sci-fi stories. I’ve gotten so many recommendations that I decided I would save them up and combine everything into a readathon of my own.

I’m calling it the Queer in Space readathon, based loosely on the Faux Book Box I curated with the same name. It will take place for the full month of December. The theme of this readathon is queer sci-fi and spec fic. There are no rules as to what fits in these categories… if you think it counts, it counts.

Dates

December 1-31, 2018

Group Read

The group read for this readathon will be the Wayfarer series by Becky Chambers. There are currently three books out in this series (The Long Way To a Small Angry Planet, A Closed and Common Orbit, and Record of a Spaceborn Few). The group read will be to start the series, continue with whichever book your on, or re-read your favorite! Also, like anything with this readathon, the group read isn’t mandatory. There are no rules (except please refrain from spoiling later books in the series). You do this readathon however works best for you.

Bingo Board

Throughout the readathon we’re going to be featuring some authors that write queer sci-fi and spec fic. Here’s the list of folks who’ve agreed to be featured so far… if I’m missing your favorite author and you think I should reach out to them let me know!

Giveaways

To go along with our Featured Author posts, we’ll also be having some giveaways throughout December! Author enthusiasm and support has been so generous that we should have at least one giveaway for each week of the readathon. These will be open in the US and internationally (whenever a US-only giveaway occurs, there will also be an international-only giveaway). Keep an eye on this site as well as my Twitter account for updates regarding giveaways.

Rec Lists

Lists of YA, NA, and adult books

Lists of books in popular tropes

Lists of books with specific identities

That’s what we have so far! Any new updates I have will be posted across my social media (mainly Twitter and Instagram, sometimes YouTube) as well as on this page.

If you have any ideas of ways this readathon could be fun for you, let me know!
